A lower cost way to automate your hydroponics setup is now available

Many have requested the ability to have all the basic functionality of HHS without environmental, pH and EC control. In response to this, HHS now has a single Phidget option. In addition, the peristaltic pumps can be replaced by one pump and an array of solenoids. This single Phidget solution provides nutrient management to refill channels, automatic nutrient changes between growth phases, email notification and so on. This is a great way to get started with your own automation project.

There are four spare outputs on the 0/16/16 – 4, 5, 6, 7. These are automatically assigned to the four timers when an 8/8/8 is not used. All that is required is to connect relay board control inputs to the spare 0/16/16 outputs exactly the way the solenoids are connected using the +12 volt supply. Use the 0/16/16 schematic as a guide. The relays should have 12 volt coils so that the 12 volt power supply can be used. They must switch currents large enough for the attached devices. No diodes are required.

A starter system can now be assembled with these parts:

  • one Phidget 0/16/16
  • one to four relays with logic input (one for each timer to be used)
  • two solid state relays for the reservoir and peristaltic pumps
  • one solenoid for each nutrient component, flush water and growing channel
  • a float switch for the mixing tank, reservoir and each growing channel
  • one 12 volt 2 amp DC power supply

That’s all there is to getting on your way. You can expand this initial setup later without any duplication of components.

This version will replace the current version.
