About us
Origin of Our Website Name
Theophrastus, the successor of Aristotle in the Peripatetic school wrote, among other works, Enquiry into Plants, On the Causes of Plants and On Stones. Our site name is a tribute to his scholarly works. Peter, petro in Greek, is a reference to the On Stones works while the balance of the site name is derived from the philosopher’s name. Thanks go to our son-in-law, Doug, for the name inspiration and to all our family members for their ongoing support and encouragement.
- promote the use of automation in home hydroponic gardening
- promote conservation of water with automated irrigation
- gather and distribute tools and techniques for general home system management
- have a lot of fun doing all of the above
Peggy and I (that's Binker) live in a rural setting surrounded by trees and perennial gardens. Now retired from the high-tech industry, we enjoy working in the gardens and visiting with our grandchildren. Our eight gardens are spread over a couple of acres and each has a unique micro-climate. Being on a drilled well, we decided a smart irrigation system would be good for the gardens and the environment. We enjoy cooking, traveling and gardening. Cooking and wintertime gardening were accommodated through hydroponics but, in order to facilitate our love of travel, we decided to automate our garden support systems.
In addition to developing hydroponics and irrigation software, I have developed a comprehensive GMS groundwater model of our surrounding area because it has extensive limestone quarry operations.
We hope what we have discovered will help others in similar situations.
